The technology resource elements I presented were socially responsible digital use as well as the ethical portion of the safe, ethical, and legal use of technology.
- In what learning environments would the technology resource I presented be appropriate?
There are many learning environments in which the technology resources I presented are appropriate. The resources I presented are actual programs in which I have experienced at schools and that are purchasable by districts to use. What is nice about the resources I chose was that they are all "school approved" and have built in safety features for when students communicate to each other through the technology.
- 2. In what learning environments would the technology resource I presented NOT be appropriate?
Although I absolutely love the resources I presented, there are a few instances when they may not be appropriate. For example the Storybird resources was excellent and allowed monitoring of students conversations, but the teacher had to keep up on the notifications of when students would communicate and this could be difficult depending on the group of students using the resource. Also, depending on the type of students in the class, these resources may have a little too much creativity to them, allowing students to get distracted or off task easily. The last downfall is that although these are great resources, some of them do cost a lot of money and may not be appropriate for certain budgets.
- How might it be modified to be appropriate?
These resources could be modified in many ways, the easiest being to give access to these websites while just in class. This way the teacher could keep an eye on what the students were working on as well as keep on eye on their conversations that they have through certain resources, such as the Storybird resource.
- What do you know that needs to be considered when using technology in the classroom?
For me one of the most important elements to remember when using technology in the classroom is whether or not it is safe and socially responsible to use it in the classroom. When using technology in the classroom teachers need to consider whether or not it is useful and educational for the students as well as whether or not it is safe and secure for students to use. All technology is not safe and it is important to teach our students about the safety of using the internet and technology since we are in the "technology age" and these children will only continue to experience new forms of technology and ways to communicate as they get older. Starting a proper foundation of the safety use, legal use, and ethical use of technology will only help the students in the future.
